Public transport timetables for the festive season 2022

The Public Transport Administration is informing you about the special services and timetables for public transport in the context of the festive season.

1. Christmas period

In general, and as every year, all public transport services will be suspended from 8 p.m. on Saturday, 24 December 2022 (Christmas Eve).

Bus – AVL, CFL, RGTR and TICE : The buses of the AVL, CFL, RGTR and TICE networks end their service on the evening of 24 December at around 8 p.m. and only resume their service at around 8 a.m. on Sunday, 25 December (Christmas), according to the timetable for Sundays and public holidays. On Monday, 26 December (St Stephen’s Day, 2nd day of Christmas), the buses will run according to the usual timetable (Sunday and public holiday timetable).

Bus – Night lines : The TICE Late Night Bus is not operating on Saturday, 24 December and Sunday, 25 December.

Bus – Call-a-Bus : The Call-a-Bus service of the City of Luxembourg operates normally during the Christmas period, except on 24 December when the service only runs until 8 p.m. instead of midnight.

Trains : CFL trains operate on Saturday, 24 December until 8 p.m. according to the normal timetable. After 8 p.m., only international journeys are operated. Throughout the days of 25 and 26 December, the CFL provides transport according to the public holiday schedule.

Tram: During the Christmas period, the tram will run according to the following schedule (details on the tram timetable can be found on the luxtram.lu website):

  • Saturday, 24 December 2022: :
    • Luxexpo – Lycée Bouneweg: first departure at 4.22 a.m. & last departure at 8 p.m.
    • Lycée Bouneweg – Luxexpo: first departure at 4.54 a.m. & last departure at 8.36 p.m.
  • Sunday, 25 December 2022 :
    • Luxexpo – Lycée Bouneweg: first departure at 7.05 a.m. & last departure at 1.10 a.m.
    • Lycée Bouneweg – Luxexpo: first departure at 7.37 a.m. & last departure at 1.42 a.m.
  • Monday, 26 December 2022 :
    • Luxexpo – Lycée Bouneweg: first departure at 04.20 a.m. & last departure at 00.05 a.m.
    • Lycée Bouneweg – Luxexpo: first departure at 04.52 a.m. & last departure at 00.40 a.m.

Adapto : For the special Adapto transport service for people with reduced mobility, the operating hours are listed below:

  • Saturday, 24 December: transport ends at 8 p.m.
  • Sunday, 25 December: transport provided between 8.00 a.m. and 10.00 p.m.
  • Monday, 26 December: transport provided between 7.00 a.m. and 10.00 p.m.

Adapto reservations must be made well in advance. Customers may have to adapt to the constraints imposed by a limited fleet of vehicles.

2. New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

Bus – CFL, RGTR and TICE : On Saturday, 31 December 2022, national public transport will run according to its normal schedule. The Night Bus network will run according to the normal timetable as well. On Sunday, 1 January 2023, all RGTR services departing after 8 a.m. are operated.

Bus – AVL : From 31 December 2022 to 1 January 2023, part of the regular route service continues to operate throughout the night. Thus, some regular lines continue to run at the same rate as in the evening and the timetable is extended from the last run of the normal timetable until approximately 6 a.m. on New Year’s morning. On Sunday, 1 January (New Year’s Day), the regular service starts at around 8 a.m. and will run according to the normal Sunday and public holiday timetable.

Bus – Night lines: From 31 December 2022 to 1 January 2023, the seven lines of the City Night Bus network will continue to operate throughout the night. They run at their usual frequency until 6.30 a.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Bus – Call-a-Bus : The Call-a-Bus service of the City of Luxembourg operates normally for New Year’s Eve.

Train : During the night of 31 December 2022 to 1 January 2023, special night trains run every hour on the main lines. For details on these special trains, please consult the website www.cfl.lu.

Tram : On New Year’s Eve, the tram will run at the following schedule (details on the tram timetable can be found on the luxtram.lu website):

  • On Saturday, 31 December 2022, the tram will run according to its usual timetable, with a cadence between 6 and 15 minutes:
    • Luxexpo – Lycée Bouneweg: first departure at 04.22 a.m. & last departure at 04.50 a.m.
    • Lycée Bouneweg – Luxexpo route: first departure at 04.54 a.m. & last departure at 05.22 a.m.
  • On Sunday, 1 January 2023, the tram will run at the same timetable as a public holiday, with a frequency of 8 to 15 minutes:
    • Luxexpo – Lycée Bouneweg: first departure at 05.05 a.m. & last departure at 00.05 a.m.
    • Lycée Bouneweg – Luxexpo: first departure at 05.37 a.m. & last departure at 00.40 a.m.

Adapto : For the special Adapto transport service for people with reduced mobility, the operating hours are listed below:

  • Saturday, 31 December: transport provided between 7.00 a.m. and midnight
  • Sunday, 1 January: transport between 8.00 a.m. (same as public transport) and 10.00 p.m.

Adapto reservations must be made well in advance. Customers may have to adapt to the constraints imposed by a limited fleet of vehicles.

Nightbus: During the night of December 31, 2022 to January 1, 2023, night buses will run to some municipalities in the country:

3. Information desks and ticket counters

AVL : The AVL “Infobus” counters located in the Cercle Cité building at Place d’Armes / corner of Rue Genistre will close at 4 p.m. on Saturday 24 and 31 December 2022.

CFL : On 24 December, the CFL customer and sales centre at Luxembourg station as well as the CFL luggage deposit and call centre will be open until 7 p.m. The following day, 25 December, they will be open as of 7 a.m. in the morning.

For further questions, the mobility advisors of the “Mobiliteit.lu” call centre are available to travellers on 2465 2465 from Monday to Friday between 6.45 a.m. and 7 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays between 9 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.
